There were thousands of them now. Emerging from the recesses at the rear of the cave, their tiny gossamer wings reflecting the hypnotic light of their abdomens. Strange swirling patterns of bioluminescence began to form - were they trying to communicate? Mellified found it hard to concentrate and she stumbled, confused and breathless.

Why couldn’t she remember where the exit was? “Away with the fairies” circled around her mind. She sneezed as they climbed up her nose and spat as they swooped into her mouth. Dimly she became aware of their suffocating intent and the bleached bones littering the floor ...

Some more please! I'll be away from Thursday (20/08) to Monday (24/08) helping my folks with building work so I should have time for some of these with any luck. All contributions (and contributors) welcome. :)

Chaoseter liked to investigate dusty museums and town halls in the hope of finding old weapons and maybe coming up with new ways of using his armoury. Mellified usually tagged along when she had nothing better to do. They'd found one near the Austrian/Italian border while they were waiting for an escort mission. She peered at an intricate woodcut of a village festival in the style of Durer. The layout of the houses and the mountains in the background looked oddly familiar.

"Party like it's 1499 Mel!"

Chaoseter pointed at one of the villagers. The villager had her face.

Scheduled Paranormal Site Investigation

I have the utmost pleasure in furnishing you with the information that after a sweep of Round Hill and its environs we came across no hideous indications of morbid odours, vibrations, black stones, scratchings of claws or indeed of Shub-Niggurath.

The only whisperer in the darkness was our compatriot Kisshoten, whose nightly snores shook the clap-board of our lodgings like the coming of Yuggoth. She assures us that this is due to the preponderance of maple pollen from the heavily forested slopes of this beautiful but spectral rustic land.

“So, it becomes obvious that the filth contaminated water you collected from the Carpathian Fangs has had its molecular structure altered in a way that we cannot explain. If we first calculate the molar mass using the standard technique, we then get a completely different value if we examine the steam using vapour density apparatus. It can change the laws of physics.”

It all went completely over Mellfied’s head, but she thought that it was very good of the rather small Templar scientist not to patronise her. She nodded seriously, and tried not to think of Scotty and Star Trek.

They’d tried everything and time was running out. The main pressure gauge was rammed into the red zone and alarms were shrieking, steam was venting, metal was twisting, nerves were shredding. So they just hit things, hard and randomly.

Unbelievably, it worked. The arcane energy vented away and the tortured Soviet machinery settled down with a contented sigh. The team relaxed, and at that moment Mellified wished she smoked - it would seem a good way to wind down. She toyed idly with a warm bit of metal and noticed that M E L L I F I E D had been etched into it with a spidery hand.

A small and inconspicuous van.
Surveillance of a non-descript house in the suburbs of Oxford.

Mellified.
Floryn.
Endoscopy.

Bored.
Uncomfortable bench seats.
Binoculars.
Unopened technical manuals and operating procedures.
Playing cards.
Take-away curries and Coca-cola.
Bored.

Mel notices it first, wrinkles her nose and glances at Endo.
Endo gets it too and returns her gaze.
They turn to Floryn.
Floryn stares fixedly out of the silvered back window.
Mel and Endo share a look.
Floryn stares fixedly out of the silvered back window.

Endo (in his soft Southern drawl):
“This time you can’t blame me or your dog Oswald, Flo”
